Content Description (long):

The study “concerns mainly the literary magazines of the interwar period. Tracing the course of Left periodicals, the author documents the adventure of the Greek Marxist intelligentsia in the first, romantic and frequently contradictory period of its formation and development.  This was an adventure with eponymous and anonymous leading figures that left its mark on both theoretical discourse and literary output. Thus a zigzag course is traced that starts with the organizational independence of the periodicals and the recognition – explicit or tacit – of the autonomy of art, to conclude with the party-dependency of literature and conformity to the rules of socialist realism”.
